Message: Dear Margaret, Sending my deepest sincerest condolences on the passing of Jimmy. I have been knowing him for many years, I can't help but think about sitting with him in the Waverly Diner in the Village almost 25 years ago, I asked him if he'd do my TV show and he said yes but he would have to clear it with Maxine (S. Harvard)..I went back and forth with Maxine for months and she finally killed it sadly. I would have liked to give him a big blast on my tv & radio show. Anyway I sure tried. Big Don had Jimmy covered like a blanket, god bless. Sincerely, Jon Hammond *Member Local 802 Musicians Union

Message: Jimmy McGriff R.I.P.
The world lost a true music legend today.
For those not aware Jimmy McGriff
was one of the world's true pioneers of the jazz/blues
Hammond Organ keyboard style and has recorded and
toured the world with just about every noteworthy
musician of the 20th century. In the 1990s he
developed Multiple Sclerosis and finally succumbed to
it today May 24th 2008.
On a personal note Jimmy McGriff was my next door
neighbor when I was staying at my mom's in 2002/2003
and he truly honored me with the privilege of allowing
me to come over his house with my guitar several times
to jam with
him. I always appreciated that a man of his musical
stature would make music with me, and the time and
patience that he,a true world class professional,
showed me, a struggling amateur, were invaluable when
you consider all the greats he worked with. And the
fact that he was fighting his illness the whole time I
knew him and played with him makes me appreciate him
that much more.
Jimmy wasn't as big a household name as some of his
colleagues were but trust me when I tell you that his
music and influence are all over the place so if you
don't mind do Jimmy and especially yourself a big
favor by looking up the music of Jimmy McGriff

Message: My deepest condolences to you and your family, Mrs. McGriff.
Jimmy was one of my strongest influences and I loved his music.
I was fortunate to meet him here in Columbus a few years back when he did a gig with Tony Monaco.
